How to find your life purpose and live life in alignment

Have you ever found yourself asking questions like who am I? How did I get here? Or even whose life is this anyway?

Me too!

Getting up every day, leaving my kids with Nanna, so I could go to work and make money for a company that was no longer a match for my values was draining my soul.

It felt wrong and the guilt was overwhelming, leading me to tears day after day as I drove away.

I was the healthiest I had ever been, I had the family I had worked so hard for but life didn’t feel right.

I was living out of alignment.

The word alignment used to make me so angry, gurus were always talking about what it felt to live in alignment, but they never told me how to do that. I am not that guru, I am going to tell you exactly how to live in alignment.

I had heard someone say once how to live a happy life was by living in alignment. But WTF was Alignment and how do you live in it?!?!

Simply, living in alignment is having more things in your life that bring you joy and fill your cup, than take away.

It’s having a deep understanding of your values and living a life that upholds them. It’s knowing what you want from life and taking action.

It’s knowing what your life is supposed to look and feel like and changing your habits that help you align with what you know is meant for you.

I now know I am meant to be an entrepreneur who supports women in becoming the healthiest, happiest version of themselves and helps them create an aligned life by teaching them how to show up for themselves day after day and achieve their goals. My values are health, family, compassion, kindness, safety, and personal growth. I am passionate about women's empowerment. If I am taking actions thats do not match this, then I am acting out of alignment.

Did you notice what I didn’t say was; a big house, a nice car, expensive purses, or even weekly pedicures.

Things will not bring you alignment. You can have everything you want in life and still be a miserable old goat.

I had all that and still, things did not feel right.

And it became more and more obvious it was my career.

Quitting and being a stay-at-home mom was not an option. We had built a life around two good paychecks and we could not do just one.

My life plan was supposed to lead to a fulfilling live with me being happy.

We, my husband and I used to keep up with the Joneses or try to anyway, we had a big house and two cars with big payments. We had the nice things that we thought we were supposed to have.

I had followed the rules, worked hard got a good job, made good money, and tried hard to be who I thought I was supposed to be. I started suppressing the parts of me that didn’t fit "the mould".

Having my kids and being home with them for a year had started undoing some of that conditioning, and I started connecting with me again.

I went back to work, trying to fit into their mould, and realizing I no longer fit, but I was trapped by the life I had worked so hard to build.

My husband and I would lie in bed at night watching YouTube videos with families who were travelling in their RVs, seeing the world, working for themselves, and being together. It was a pipe dream, how could a plumber and district retail manager ever pull that off? We would have no money, it just wasn’t possible, but we watched, and dreamt of a time when it would work.

Along came 2020, and I stumbled upon Mel Robbins's best decade ever and in that free little booklet I was giving permission to dream, to sit down and ask myself, what I really wanted out of life.

It gave me permission to dream bigger than I had ever allowed myself.

I remember running down the stairs and looking at my husband and saying, I know what I want to be, and excitedly, I said these words to him. “ I want to be Mel Robbins, well not Mel Robbins, but like her. I want to inspire women to live better lives and be the best they can be!”

My husband looked at me and said ok, how do you make it happen. He believed in me from day one.

There were things in that job that lit me up! It was other stuff that put out my flame over and over again. What I needed was to find ways to do more of the things that filled my cup and fanned my flame and less of the things that dampened my magic.

Taking my love of coaching which was the best part of my job in corporate and building a business where I got to do that as my job felt like a path I wanted to go down. I was excited to figure that out.

Here are the big questions to help you start thinking about what bringing more alignment might look like in your life.

What are the things that light you up, that add fuel to your flame?

What are the wet rags that try to put it out?

What are the things you could do every day for the rest of your life, what are the things that bring you joy? People, places, things, or activities that when you think about them make you feel lighter.

What are the things that you would rather never do again, what are the people places, things and activities that make you feel heavier?

If you had to wake up every day and do one thing, what would it be?

What are your core values?

This is a great jumping-off point and if you want to take this deeper and start taking ideas and turning them into goals and actions, make sure you grab my Free How To Catch A Dream Workbook that took me and my clients from feeling stuck to taking action and building an aligned life of their dreams. And if you are wondering, this was not the last time I would fall completely out of alignment, in just a couple of years from this moment, I stopped living one of my core values, which is health, and it sent me into a tailspin, but that is a story for another day.
